Perhaps the most balanced engine for the 1969 model year was the
L89 big-block, rated at 435 horsepower. Chevrolet started out
with a four-bolt main, cast iron block, then engineers crafted a
pair of high flow, lightweight, aluminum heads to top it off.
Resting between the heads was an aluminum tri-power intake
manifold with three Holley Model 2300 carburetors. While the L89
was rated at the same 435 horsepower as the iron-head L71, the
L89 was known to produce slightly more power thanks to its
larger exhaust valves (1.84 inches versus 1.72 inches). It also
weighed about 75 pounds less, thus reducing unnecessary weight
from the front end and helping handling characteristics. The
option didn’t come cheap, it required an additional $832. A cast
iron transistorized distributor was standard for all L71 and L89
engines. It has the radio block off plate and the 6500 redline
tach, someone added an antenna after the car was repainted. It
does have a 7 leaf rear spring and a rear sway bar. It does NOT
have power steering or power brakes and I do NOT have the
factory smog pump. It has a 5 blade clutch fan. All the gauges
work fine. It has the correct 4 bolt mains 512 casting block
with the correct 842 casting closed chamber aluminum heads.
The interior is like new. The paint job is nice, but NOT
showroom quality. The underneath is nice with no rust.
Unfortunately, this is NOT a numbers matching block and I do NOT
have the tank sticker. The car was originally purchased from
Rosenthal Chevrolet in Virginia and the block was a factory
replacement warranty block that was installed by Rosenthal
Chevrolet.
There is a new fuel tank and unfortunately, the person that
replaced it did not know the value of the sticker. If I did have
it, I would be asking a whole lot more for the car. If you have
any particular pictures you would like to see, just send me a
message and I will get you whatever you need. I will be
constantly adding more pictures soon. This is your opportunity
to have an extremely rare car at a substantial discount. BTW, I
bought a 2019 Z06.
Thanx,
For looking.
